About Conventional Cotton and Organic Cotton
Organic cotton comes from cotton plants farmed without genetically modified seed and without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Figures often cited for organic cotton are 91% less water and 46% lower greenhouse gas emissions than conventional cotton, which relies on heavy water and pesticide use. Organic cotton is usually certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and costs more to grow because yields are lower.
Earth Totes uses organic cotton for the CANDY mesh tote and the CECILE string bag, sold wholesale to Australian retailers. Both are reusable alternatives to plastic shopping bags and fold into their own zip pocket. See the mesh and string bag collection.
